After a quite cold night (it had really been cold) I went over to the Oktoberhallen to warm up a little bit. There the British gothic metal band Hanging Doll should fire us up. Up to now they only released one EP and an album but the second is currently at work. So they only played stuff of the 2008 released CD "Reason & Madness".
Unfortunately they suffered the same fate of many bands opening a festival day. Even though playing really good music and having a vocally great Sally Hollyday they could not electrify the audience. The reasons for that are various. On the one hand the venue is to that early time not yet filled very well. That one's that strayed in front of the stage were not yet awakened or had to warm up after the cold night. Also it may be due to the music style itself which is more quiet and not really encouraging one to go with them although the band from Birmingham was giving everything they had on stage.
From my point of view it was a quite reasonable opening into the second festival day. It was not an overwhelming gig but also none that would need to hide. And about the fact that the audience did not really follow them they should not think about that much as that was not different the years before.
