Wacken Open Air XXIII
Wacken (Germany)
(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
The last band of this year's Wacken Open Air was announced as surprise act and behind that the Hessian band Edguy was hidden. At that point I have to arise significant criticism directed to the promoters as either Edguy as well as Leningrad Cowboys playing in parallel at the Bullhead Tent due to their fame really received the most unthankful slots!
The crowd in front of the stage was due to that quite overseeable unsurprisingly related to the time, the weather and that the festival was already lasting 4 days. Also I more or less had to fight with myself. But anyhow, after Wham!s "Last Christmas" was over Edguy was storming onto the stage getting the crowd really moving. Singer Tobias Sammet fooled around the whole concert as always and had the audience fully under control after only a few minutes. All were singing loudly along songs like "Nobody's Hero" or "Lavatory Love Machine" and celebrated the band excessively for the last time. Although they only had one hour available it felt much less. So the band left after "Babylon" shortly just to come back to close this year's Wacken Open Air finally with "King Of Fools". In case that Tobias would have talked less the band could easily play 1-2 more songs but never mind that somehow belongs to Edguy and especially Tobias Sammet.
On the one hand it was sad that now everything was over but on the other side I was glad too that it was over as four days leaves their marks on one. So the only thing that remains is the anticipation to the Wacken Open Air 2013 and the already now big announcements of confirmed bands like Nightwish, Deep Purple, Doro, Sabaton or Rage. So the only thing that is left is to say: "See you at Wacken 2013! Rain or Shine!"
