On 24.04.2010 I set out for Steenwijk to first wait there in a relaxed atmosphere at the theatre lobby. By and by people from various countries met there. Due to the fact that the concert should be at the De Meenthe, I expected it to be an ordinary one. But already when entering the hall completely provided with seats these thoughts had been upset. And so it came that I was not the only one with an astonished look on the face.
So, first thing to find a seat and afterwards waiting for the things to come. At the beginning everything started like on an ordinary Within Temptation concert: “Towards The End“ with several drummers on stage and the appearance of the band members. But already there you could see that this was a special concert because all sat down on white chairs and in place of electric guitars, Ruud and Robert were using the acoustic versions. Additionally Within Temptation had a new variant of the obligatory video projection with them. Therefore, a semitransparent screen was used which was very appropriate integrated into the show.
So Sharon sang in the following “Caged” behind bars and later during “Somewhere” a duet with the virtually attending Anneke van Giersbergen. Completely unusual you followed the acoustic set seated but nevertheless it was a lot of fun to what also the musicians around Sharon contributed.
When “Heart Of Everything” began and the e-guitars were unpacked nothing could keep the audience on their seats and many rushed forward towards the stage. After that song already the next specialty: A break in the middle of a Within Temptation concert? Well, OK. So, after the break again taken your seat and waiting for the things to come. It was a mixture of acoustic songs and songs in their known version. During “Utopia“ a girl out of the audience could proof that she knew the lyrics and towards the end the atmosphere was even more turned on by “What Have You Done” and “Mother Earth”. Unfortunately, there came the point where “Ice Queen” began, signalizing the end of the concert.
For me it was a very special night and a concert which I will not forget that soon. Great vibes, uncommon atmosphere and the very well suiting changes between acoustic and known versions of the songs. Simply great!
