The zoo visits continued this year, and there was a premiere. Although I had studied in Bochum for many years, I was not aware that there was a zoo here. So, on a beautiful autumn day, I chose it as my destination and was really amazed. The exact name is Tierpark and Fossilium Bochum. It is not particularly large, but very beautiful.
Right behind the entrance is the first building, where many reptiles and fish can be observed. The Fossilium is also housed here, displaying various fossil finds from the Bochum area. From there, you can continue along various enclosures to another interesting building, where slender lorises and long-eared hedgehogs can be observed in darkened enclosures, as these animals are nocturnal. As mentioned, the entire zoo is not very large, but this makes it particularly interesting for families with small children. Various domestic animals can be viewed and petted, and you can watch the cute seals and Humboldt penguins. If the children are still not tired, they can burn off the rest of their energy on the great playground.
Overall, a very nice and worthwhile zoo visit, especially if you have a fondness for fish and reptiles.
