26.11.2011 Anvil
Metropool, Hengelo (Netherlands)
(Pentax K-5 with Tamron SP AF 17-50mm 2.8 XR Di II LD Asp IF and Sigma AF 50-150mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
The atmosphere was already quite well heated up by the opener Crimes Of Passion and started boiling when Anvil after a phenomenal short break for changing the stage setting entered the stage. First busy with the sound check it quite fast got down to the nitty-gritty by "March Of The Crabs".
That was the beginning of the Steve "Lips" Kudlow show. The man itself is already worth the admission fee. One or the other chord failed and also the lyrics can somehow be different to the one on the album. But hey, who cares as I do not know another musician that is standing on stage with so much enthusiasm and fun. Between the songs there is easy-going stand-up comedy and of course the classics like "guitar used as micro" and the legendary dildo solo may not be missing.
But Steve is of course not solely on stage. He is supported by Rob Reiner on drums and Glenn Five on bass. And they are not less enthusiastic than Steve. Mainly songs of the last album "Juggernaut Of Justice" were played but especially during the old songs like the classic "Metal On Metal" the Metropool boiled over. A really genious gig. So much fun I did not have had for a long time. In my eyes they were the real headliner and the best band of the evening but overall you have to say that the level of all bands was extremely high.
