Turbinenhalle, Oberhausen (Germany)

It is long time ago since I have been at the Turbinenhalle for the last time but for this years Paganfest (at Oberhausen even in an extra long version as additionally to the normal lineup Obscurity, Heidevolk and Eluveitie are with them) it finally was again the time. Due to the high number of overall 9 bands the festival started quite early and so already around 15:00 the doors to the old industrial hall went open. Outside the sun was burning and so it was more enlightened inside the venue than used to but that should be no problem to the men of Obscurity bringing dark atmosphere onto the stage.
Although it was quite early, the weather outside was very nice and there were only 30 minutes from opening of the doors until the first band started the venue was already quite well filled. So that everyone was awake the local heroes from Velbert directly started with "Keltilwald" quite sturdy. The death / black / viking metal guys sing in their German songs about the history of the Bergisches Land. Singer Agalaz enthused the crowd directly from the first note. It was loudly sang along, moshed and partied. Again and again inbetween the songs "Varusschlacht" was requested but unfortunately the band did not fulfil that wish. Instead they played a cross section of the last two albums "Várar" and "Tenkterra" where the last of the two was dominating. The visitors did not give a thing about that and as the band wanted to leave the stage after roughly 30 minutes there were loud screams for an encore. And so the guys did not wait long time to come back and heated up the atmosphre with "Blut Für Blut" before the Bergisch lions finally had to leave the stage.
Overall a really terrific opener getting everyone directly to working temperature and the only band of the day that was allowed to play an encore. So is there anything you could want more? After such a fulminant beginning it could continue like this.
