03.08.2013 Subway To Sally
Wacken Open Air XXIV
Wacken (Germany)
(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
At the end just like two years ago the German middle ages band Subway To Sally played. Even when the numbers were dwindling due to several people alread starting their trip home or going to their tents.
But to the remaining ones it did not spoil the moods and the atmosphere was still quite good. Erik Fish and his numerous band played a nice cross section with hits like "Unsterblich" or "Kleid Aus Rosen". Of course the already on Wednesday announced counter visit of Santiano may not be missing. They were represented by singer Hans-Timm Hinrichsen and violinist David Sage who again played together with Subway To Sally "Auf Kiel" (just like on Wednesday). Nice idea but who already saw the performance on Wednesday on Wackinger Stage was not that enthused today. Anyhow, with a great light show and several pyro effects (fontains or fire-eating) also for one's eye a lot was offered.
In my opinion this had not been an outstanding gig and also the long weekend had left marks on me so that I did not stay until the end. Wacken 2013 offered nearly everything. Starting with great bands, unbelievable hot weather, a decent rain shower transforming the infield into one huge puddle of mud and overall an unbelievable good atmosphere. For the 25th anniversary next year with Arch Enemy or Amon Amarth the first bands were already announced. Although the really huge names are momentarily missing there was again a sensation when the festival was sold out after less than 48 hours. An all-time record. So let's see what the next year will bring us. I am already now looking forward. So: See you at Wacken - Rain or Shine!
