30.07.2014 John Diva And The Rockets Of Love
Wacken Open Air XXV
Wacken (Germany)
(Pentax K-5 with Sigma AF 70-200mm 2.8 EX DC APO HSM II)
OK, beforehand the website somehow scared me away but after Ax ‘N Sex I did not feel like walking over to the Wackinger Stage so that I thought: “Let’s take a look what this will be like. If I do not like it I will still be in the position to leave.”.
No sooner said, then done! And then the reincarnation of concentrated 80s rock entered the stage personalized by John Diva with his Rockets Of Love. In proper style with flowing mane, skinny pants and with a blaze of colours that you could get blinded. But what they showed afterwards was a fireworks of rock classics. No matter if “Here I Go Again”, “Poison” or “The Final Countdown”. The audience willingly followed them and bawled all these hymns loudly together with them. If you take an exact look at it, it was not even simply a cover band show. Front man John Diva was mainly responsible for many of the songs as songwriter and has besides that already worked as vocal coach, trainer and songwriter for the really big ones like Bon Jovi, Kiss, Van Halen or Guns’N’Roses. So it was only consequent that he appeared on stage himself to finish his “mission rock’n’roll”. Of course during the show feminine charms in terms of cheerleader may not be missing, swirling across the stage at nearly every second song with different outfits.
I think for a Wednesday an for not taking it too seriously it was quite a solid show that enthused the audience. It was quite a lot of fun also you have to ask yourself why such a band is playing at the Wacken.
