Lord Of The Lost and my ways only crossed once: 2015 on the Gelsenkirchen Blackfield Festival. To that time with only very limited resources taking place at the afternoon the concert nowadays is totally standing in contrast to it. The band is much more known today, especially due to their appearance at the European Song Contest one year ago. But back to the M’era Luna at Hildesheim.
There the men around the charismatic singer Chris Harms were entering the stage dressed in extravagant glittering outfits and with martial dark paintings on the rest of the skin that was visible. Harms made the gag during their performance that he would have to join a figure skating contest right afterwards where he would not have stood out with his skinny glitter body without any question. And directly he cast a spell over the audience with his incredible variable voice of Harms that was fascinating in the first moment with a great and clear baritone only to quickly change only shortly afterwards into wild screams and shouts. Also, otherwise one could only direct its view onto the stage due to the fireworks that were burned down there in the true sense of the word. Harms always ran from left right across the stage, jumped around and the audience was willingly following him. Right in the middle he could not be kept on stage, but he was jumping down in order to seek the direct contact with the fans. Although Lord Of The Lost was only founded in 2009, singer and idea generator Chris Harms having a never-ending creative potential did not only release in that short time 11 albums with Lord Of The Lost but also numerous further albums with his solo side projects like Harms & Kapelle or Die Kreatur. The set was very nicely compiled and was not only taking newer songs from the last “own” album “Blood And Glitter” into consideration but also used many older pieces. Due to that and the numerous characteristics of the songs it was not getting boring. His fellows were acting a little bit more decent on stage but were not less present. No matter whether it was the rhythm fraction with Niklas Kahl on drums and Klaas Helmecke on bass or Pi on guitar, Gerit Heinemann on drums and keyboards as well as Benjamin Mündigler who changed between guitar and keyboards all the time. It was a 50 minutes taking rollercoaster of feelings that found at its furious final its climax in the ESC song “Blood And Glitter”.
I definitely pull my hat really deeply in front of the band for this really impressive show on such a high level. That was clearly one of the highlights of the M’era Luna to me and will definitely remain on my mind. Therefore, the recommendation to all that did not have anything to do with Lord Of The Lost apart from the ESC to visit one of their concerts and get oneself into it. I am quite sure that one will not be disappointed. Personally, I would still like if his genius side project Harms & Kapelle would be continued at any point in time. Momentarily, it does not look that good due to the success he is having with Lord Of The Lost.
